How to Calculate Tack Coat

Get the paving area in square metres (length × width of the surface being overlaid).
Choose your application rate: tack coat is usually 0.2–0.5 L/m²; prime coat 0.5–1.0 L/m² — follow the project spec.
Multiply area × rate, then add spray loss: multiply by 1 + waste% and compare with your distributor's tank capacity.

Formula Used

Emulsion (L) = Area × Application rate × (1 + Waste %)

Worked Example

A 2,000 m² resurfacing job at 0.35 L/m² with 5% spray loss:

Emulsion = 2000 × 0.35 × 1.05 = 735 litres
≈ 194 US gallons ≈ 162 Imp gallons
